Operations

Operations is responsible for the processing of emergent and non-emergent calls for assistance received on E911 (Enhanced 911) and 7-digit phone lines. Operations dispatches and tracks fire and EMS units in Johnson County and a portion of northern Miami County which borders to the south.

The ECC Operations staff has four shifts – two day shifts and two night shifts – of 4-6 employees each. Minimum daytime staffing is five employees – three dispatcher/call-takers, one shift supervisor and one assistant supervisor. Minimum nighttime staffing is four employees – two dispatcher/call-takers, one assistant supervisor and one supervisor.

The ECC schedule follows a two-week rotation, for a total of seven 12-hour shifts in each pay period (three days one week, four the next). The employee’s four-day week results in 8 hours of automatic overtime at a time-and-a-half pay rate.

Each employee works every-other calendar weekend, allowing employees to take every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. Employees also have 2 two-day “weekends” off during a pay period.
